Research into comedy teaser trailers

Mean Girls

'

There is music throughout that links the individual scenes together within the trailer. It features a lot of audio in the form of music and sound from the scenes within the trailer, but no voiceover. It lasts for a long time, 2 minutes 32 seconds, and we feel that it explains a lot of the plot and may give away too much of the film. This may make it a less successful teaser trailer because it feels like it’s excessively long and it gives away too much of the plot.

Easy A

Throughout the whole teaser trailer, limited information revealed to the viewer in terms of plot, themes etc. The film is clearly shown to be a comedy through humorous scenes, bright mise-en-scene and upbeat music used. Music is played throughout the trailer with occasional additional sound effects, e.g. birds tweeting, shower, and also occasional speech from within the scene. The film title and release date shown at the end on a plain black background to make it stand out.

The Inbetweeners (TV series)

Contrapuntal, non-diegetic music is used throughout the trailer. There are no captions, which is different to the film trailers we have watched, suggesting the conventions are different for TV Trailers. Because of this, we are not going to watch and analyse any more trailers for TV shows etc, and stay strictly to film.
